Why is it so hard to find a good place to live?
Published on May 31, 2008 By snowier In Life Journals

Where I live now is far from optimal, but at least nobody has been shot anywhere nearby. Yes drug dealers are abundant and such and there was somebody stabbed at another complex nearby. Also they had a lot of robberies by devious thieves.

Looking for an appartment has been lack luster and the only thing that has saved me some time and money is Map Quest. AHH thank goodnees that is a very useful tool. It has saved me lots of money in avoiding the really worst areas around me.

Problem is a lot of the appartment listings tend to be on the worst areas. Eithier that or not much better than where I am at. One place is so bad that even though it is suppose to be a "secure" building, residents still have appartments broke into and are robbed. One would be about as safe in a homeless shelter, if not safer.

That I consider bad, but maybe I'm wrong????

You're sure going through a tough experience!  Is there any agency ( such as HRA ) that you can call and request a list of housing from?

I suppose you know the county you're in,  so you know where not to move to....

what a pain,  hope you find a good place!

HUD does have a list. Unfortunately a majoirity of the places on the list are in the worst possible areas. The few that don't charge such an outradgious pet lease, plus pet fees on top of the security deposit it isn't funny. Two places charge  $545 security deposit, $ 175 for a pet lease and an extra $300 a year just to have one cat. I can't afford that and I don't know too many people who can.
