I know that are nation was mostly built by immigrants, however I think there should be a policy started to curb some of the process. More immigrants that are comming in now are not coming to work for a better life, they want the better life but are unable to work, unwilling to work, or just plain and simple never will be employable. There are some that come for better education and work too, but those numbers are geting fewer. Where I live alone in a relitively small area only 5% of the people from another country work, the rest are a burden on the government and tax payers. Not saying that there are not also some "black" people in the same category. I am far from saying ban all immigration, but there should be a process to ensure a majority of all immigrants can and will become productive members of society and not just squat in the middle of sidewalks jabbering all day. Another problem is the entire U.S. School system and policies we have more tests, distractions, and holidays than actual time spent on teaching the children. It is pretty bad that on average a middle school child doesn't spell the name of their city and or state correctly (if they know it at all) and most don't know their own state county and capital. However most European children in middle school are great at world geography and can name the U.S. states and capitals in their native language and English. I propose all the following be banned in all U.S. classrooms cell phones, PDA's, MP3's, walkman's, CD players, and anything else distracting from teaching. I also see very little need for computer use in general teaching unless a teacher is doing a Power Point demonstration.
It is amazing if one knows how to use Powerpoint what can be taught. Educational videos are good but not always enough I really think children need to read books of information more, do math using their brains instead of calculators and computers. Technology is slowly but surely taking away thinking ability, at the rate things are going not to far in the future if electricity was lost for a year, I really think people would just freeze like a deer caught in headlights and forget how they ever lived without all this technology.
